Jonathan Huberdeau, Young Guns Canvas

A quick, one-card post today featuring a card I happened to come across just as an auction was ending on eBay:

I don't have many of them, but I really like Upper Deck's Canvas inserts. It's more than just the painted look (which is always a hit with me). So many of the Canvas cards feature unusual photos, even moreso than Upper Deck's flagship set. That's what I liked about this Jonathan Huberdeau Canvas card, which shows him wearing shoulder pads, presumably just before or after a practice, and autographing a jersey for an older lady. The fan wearing a bright Panthers uniform in the background adds an extra layer of detail. Of course, the fact that this is a Young Guns parallel is nice, too, especially since Canvas Young Guns only fall one out of every 48 packs, making them a fairly difficult pull.

Huberdeau was the NHL's rookie of the year two seasons ago and his rookie cards carried some pretty high prices. He struggled a bit last year, though, and those prices have come back to earth a bit. I was able to win this auction for $3.03, plus a couple bucks shipping. Seemed like a great deal to me, especially now that his play may be picking up again.
