The first 25 cards from a trade I just completed with Zistle user Latent Months were something of a random lot, with a handful of cards of various players, teams and sets I like to collect. But the remaining 50 from the trade were all from the same set.
I mentioned the other day how completely smitten I was with a gold parallel from 2013-14 Score that I was sent recently as part of another trade. I immediately set out to find more -- and it turns out that Latent Moths was sitting on a mother lode. I won't show off all 50 from the trade (technically, I think it was 49), but here are the ones I like the most.
I still can't get over how much these photos look like comic-book art. I gather from reading other blogs that it's likely the result of Panini amping up the air-brushing to the nth degree. Whatever they're doing, it works perfectly with these gold parallels.
The Chicago captain was probably the biggest star in the lot.
At 5-5, Nathan Gerbe is the shortest player in the NHL right now. And here he is body-checking a guy who appears to be at least a foot taller.
Similar to the Signature Renditions line, I think I like any card that includes background crowd shots the best. Adds some extra color and depth.
Callahan's expression makes this shot.
Altogether, there are 550 cards in the base set, so it's pretty unlikely I'll ever pull the whole thing together. But I'm definitely going to grab as many as I can find.
