Captured on Cardboard: Dave Winfield

This is the latest card to fall through my mail slot:

It's from Upper Deck's 2008 Masterpieces release and it captures one of the greatest moments in Toronto Blue Jays history: Dave Winfield's two-run double in the top of the 11th inning of Game 6 of the 1992 World Series against the Atlanta Braves. The hit gave the Jays the lead and they closed out their first World Series Championship half an inning later. Winfield's double is arguably one of the three most important hits in Blue Jays history, along with Robbie Alomar's home run off Dennis Eckersley in the 1992 American League Championship Series against the Oakland A's and -- of course -- Joe Carter's walk-off home run off Mitch Williams in game 6 of the 1993 World Series against the Philadelphia Phillies. I remember seeing all three live on TV as a kid.

This is the blue-framed parallel of the card and holy cow does it look nice. The frame matches the Jays uniform perfectly.

It's also numbered 27/50. A seller on eBay had it listed for $20 with the option to make an offer. I bid $10, he countered with $15. I declined, only because I'd seen one or two sell for closer to $5 when I searched sold listings. But it turns out I didn't have the patience to wait for another one to be listed -- when the buyer lowered his asking price to $15, I decided to bid $12 and we had a deal. Probably a bit of an overpay with my part. But holy cow does it look nice.

I may have to try rainbowing (is that a word?) this card at some point.
